Advent - A Season of Preparation

Advent is a Christian season of preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth.

Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends with the day called Christmas Eve, which is December 24 this year.

The word Advent comes from the Latin word "ad-venire" meaning "to come to").

It is a time for giving up or quieting certain activities in order to enjoy the fullness of Christ's arrival.

The Advent season is a time when we show our love for Christ by looking to His second coming at the end of time and reminding ourselves about the birth of Jesus on Christmas.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, this is a time for us to slow down, for us to be in tune with the voice of God calling us back home.

The Colour purple symbolizes how Advent is a time when we prepare for the great feast day of Christmas.

In this season, we are called to be alert and ready, not weighed down and distracted by the cares of this world.
