Saint Paul was a Christian apostle and missionary who is widely considered to be one of the most influential figures in the history of Christianity. He was born in Tarsus, a city in modern-day Turkey, in the first century AD. According to the Bible, Paul was originally known as Saul, and he was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish council responsible for enforcing religious law. He was a devout Jew and a persecutor of Christians, but he had a dramatic conversion to Christianity after experiencing a vision of Jesus while traveling to Damascus to arrest Christians.
