Cultivating the Fruits of the Holy Spirit Lesson Plan

The fruits of the Holy Spirit are a central belief in Christianity. It is believed that the Holy Spirit produces these fruits in the lives of believers as evidence of His presence and work. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Fruits of the Holy Spirit:

  1. Love: The ability to show concern, affection, and devotion towards others, and to act selflessly for their benefit.
  2. Joy: A deep sense of contentment and happiness that comes from knowing and experiencing the love of God.
  3. Peace: A sense of calm and tranquility that comes from trust in God and the assurance of His presence and provision.
  4. Patience: The ability to endure difficult situations and people without becoming angry or resentful.
  5. Kindness: The ability to act in a compassionate and caring way towards others, and to be considerate of their needs.
  6. Goodness: The ability to live a morally upright and virtuous life, and to reflect the character of God in one's actions.
  7. Faithfulness: The ability to be loyal, dependable, and trustworthy in one's relationships and commitments.
  8. Gentleness: The ability to be considerate, tactful, and mild-mannered in one's interactions with others.
  9. Self-control: The ability to control one's thoughts, emotions, and actions and to live in a disciplined and orderly way.

Objective: 

By the end of the lesson, students will have a better understanding of the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how they can cultivate them in their own lives.

Lesson Outline: 

  1. Definition and origin of the fruits of the Holy Spirit
  2. The role of the Holy Spirit in producing the fruits in the life of a Christian 
  3. The different fruits of the Holy Spirit 
  4. How to cultivate the fruits of the Holy Spirit in your life

Group Activity:

  • Students will work in small groups to research and present on one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control)
  • Students will share their findings with the class and discuss ways to cultivate that fruit in their own lives

Individual Activity:

  • Students will reflect on their own lives and identify areas where they can improve in cultivating the fruits of the Holy Spirit
  • Students will make a plan for how they can work on cultivating one of the fruits in their personal lives and in their relationships with others

Prayer:

Dear God,

Thank you for the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Help us to love others like you love us. Give us joy in our hearts and peace in our minds. Teach us to be patient and kind to everyone. Help us to be good and faithful friends. Let us be gentle with others and strong in controlling our actions.

Thank you for helping us grow these fruits in our lives. 

Amen

Conclusion:

Students will be reminded that the fruits of the Holy Spirit are evidence of the Holy Spirit's presence and work in their lives, and that it is important to actively cultivate these fruits in order to live a more God-centered life. Encourage them to be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in their lives and to actively work on cultivating the fruits in their daily lives.
