The Sign of the Cross Lesson Plan


The sign of the cross is a common gesture in many Christian denominations. It is a physical representation of one's faith and is often made at the beginning and end of prayers, as well as during other religious ceremonies and practices.

Objective: 

The objective of this lesson is for students to understand the significance of the sign of the cross and to learn how to make the sign correctly.

Lesson Outline:

  1. Begin by explaining the history and significance of the sign of the cross. The sign of the cross has been used by Christians for centuries as a way to invoke the protection and blessings of God. It is also a way to express one's faith and commitment to Jesus Christ.
  2. Demonstrate how to make the sign of the cross. To make the sign of the cross, start by placing the right hand on the forehead, then move it down to the chest, then to the left shoulder, and then to the right shoulder. This gesture is often accompanied by the words "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
  3. Practice making the sign of the cross as a class. Have the students stand up and follow along as you demonstrate the gesture again. Encourage them to say the words out loud as they make the sign.

Activity:

  1. Divide the students into pairs and have them practice making the sign of the cross with each other.
  2. As a class, recite a prayer or recite the Lord's Prayer while making the sign of the cross.

Conclusion:
